Sian’s New Socket

Following a horrific road traffic accident whilst on holiday in New York City, Sian Green lost her leg below the knee. At the time of the accident a well-known TV personality, Dr Oz, happened to be filming for one of his shows so he and the crew were on-hand to provide medical attention and subsequently document Sian’s path to recovery. Sian was later a guest on Dr Oz’s show once she was fit enough to leave the hospital.

Once back in the UK, Sian started a charity to help other amputees, got married and has recently had a daughter. I had been Sian’s prosthetist for a while when she approached me with a view to having a very special limb made. I was presented with a rather expensive Louis Vuitton bag and asked to make a Louis Vuitton limb from it. I made it clear that the bag would not fare well from the process however I was given permission to do what was required so long as the limb “looked fabulous”. Clearly, I had to start with the well-fitting socket as the Louis Vuitton would not respond well to adjustments. Thanks to the talents of our technician, Simon Malin, we achieved an amazing result. Sian was delighted with the limb although I suspect it won’t be used whilst completing the weekly grocery shop!
