Jane Muir

Principal Prosthetist

I'm Jane, and I work as a Principal Prosthetist at Blatchford's Private Clinic in Sheffield. I hold a BSc (Hons) in Prosthetics and Orthotics and have experience as a CUBS expert witness.

I graduated from the University of Strathclyde in 1989, so I've been in the field for over 33 years, gaining valuable clinical experience as a Prosthetist.

Throughout my career, I've worked with various patients, including adults, children, and veterans who have experienced upper and lower limb amputations or congenital limb absence.

I've been actively involved in the field, serving two terms on the Executive Committee of BAPO. I even had the honour of chairing their Conference Committee, contributing to the success of five fantastic conferences.

Over the years, I've taken on various additional responsibilities, including managing teams of Orthotists and wheelchair clinicians. I've also been part of clinical governance groups, primarily focusing on clinical audits. On top of all this, I'm certified as an expert witness by Cardiff University Bond Solon (CUBS) and have experience preparing reports for court cases in England.

My absolute favourite aspect of this job is the constant variety it offers. I adore the challenges that come with new technology and techniques. Staying up to date with these advancements has been a source of joy for me throughout my long and rewarding career. However, the close working relationship I've developed with my patients truly warms my heart. It's all about teamwork and ensuring the best possible clinical outcomes together.

Outside of work, I have a range of hobbies that keep me busy and fulfilled. I love baking, going to the theatre with my husband and teenage daughter, practising yoga, and singing with the All For One choir, which often performs across East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or want to chat. I'm here to help and share my passion for prosthetics and orthotics!

The best part of my role has always been getting to know my patients and developing a close collaborative working relationship with them in order to ensure the best possible clinical outcome
